元太收購達意 衝刺電子紙
電子紙全球龍頭元太科技董事長劉思誠昨(3)日宣布,將以不超過15億元的現金,購買友達集團旗下達意科技(SiPix)的全數股權,預計在取得政府相關許可後,第4季完成股票交割作業。
屆時達意將成為元太旗下的獨立的子公司,元太則可取得SiPix的技術、專利、人才及資源。友達光電昨天代2家投資子公司,公告以5.38億元處分達意科技的長期股權投資,估計處分利益為3億元。
法人分析,元太趁著面板產業景氣低迷之際,以相對便宜的價格,從友達集團買下長期虧損的達意科技,一舉掌握達意擅長的電子標籤和智慧卡的電子紙市場,有助元太分散產品過於集中的風險。目前元太的產品以電子閱讀器為主,並在該產業市占率九成。
元太副董事長何奕達指出,元太在電子書閱讀器的應用一直領先,達意在電子標籤、智慧卡、3C產品的特殊顯示等應用發展,二者的結合,著眼於雙方的技術可望發揮互補效益。收購SiPix的整合效益,要拉長時間來看,初步效益可在2013年發揮出來。元太董事會昨天通過這項收購案。
【記者簡威瑟/台北報導】日盛投顧總經理李秀利指出,電子紙本來就不是元太的主要獲利來源,替亞馬遜代工Kindle Fire反而是支撐公司營運的主要業務。此次合併達意,很有可能是看準可以一次獲得200項專利,同時取得微杯技術,進而在技術整合後,跳脫電子閱讀器的發展局限。但後續效應還需長期觀察,且達意科技並非上市櫃公司,量化合併效果不易,因而中性看待元太短期股價反應。

Price to Book ratio and Return on Equity

Following on from my look at the Price to Earnings ratio, and in a similar vein to my post on subsequent rates of return, I'd now like to take a look at P/B ratios and ROE.  The mechanics of the numbers are fairly straight forward.

The Price to Book ratio is the price that you pay for the book value of the company - the book value being the net (booked) value of their assets - or in really simplistic terms - how much money they have in the bank, assuming no liabilities.  So, if they have $100,000 in assets and you pay $200,000 for the company, you are paying a price to book value of 2:1. 

The Return on Equity is simply how efficient the company is at making a profit.  If they use the $100,000 to generate $15,000 profit, they have an ROE of 15%.  Not bad.

These two metrics are linked though the P/E ratio.



But before that, some Value Investing history.  The original value investor, Benjamin Graham, looked for (good) value in low P/B ratios - ie, below 1.  The theory should be obvious.  If you are paying $50,000 for a company that has $100,000 in the bank, you'll tend to do well.

The art, of course, was differentiating between "book" value, and real value.  For example, some companies (e.g. railroads) purchased lots of real estate.  Over time, the real value of these properties increased - some times many times over, however the value on the companies balance sheets (book value) never changed.  To continue the example, let's say the $100,000 of company money was not all cash in the bank, but was made up of $50,000 cash and $50,000 real estate.  But let's also say that that real estate was purchased 20 years ago, and could be conservatively valued today at $500,000.  All of a sudden, a price of $300,000, or a book value of 3:1, doesn't seem so expensive.

Warren Buffet learned this P/B trick off Graham, but then took it to another level.  By focusing his "value" portfolio on companies with a high ROE, he got a double whammy - cheap companies that were very efficient and would continue to grow over time.  The actual business feature that led to the high ROE was what buffet called a "durable competitive advantage".

OK.  History lesson over.  Lets take a look at the interplay between the P/B ratio and ROE.  I said above that the two were linked through the P/E ratio.  Let's take a look this.
  • Market Price / Book Value  => P/B ratio
  • Profit / Book Value  => ROE
  • Market Price / Profit => P/E ratio
Hence my conclusion about the two components of P/E being cheapness (P/B ratio) and growth (ROE).

Going back to our example of our $100,000 company (book value) that earns an ROE of 15%.  Let's also assume that, as an investor, our target rate of return is 15%.  Clearly, if we pay par value (P/B = 1) for this company (or part thereof), then we achieve our desired rate of return.

If, however, ROE of the company is only 7.5%, then, to achieve our desired rate of return of 15% we would need to purchase this company at a discount, to compensate for it's slower growth.  Clearly, if we purchase this company for only $50,000, then we achieve our desired rate of return of 15%.

Hold the phone.  Not so fast.  We achieve an initial rate of return of 15%, ($7,500 / $50,000), but the following year we would achieve a rate of return of 16.125% ($8,625 / $50,000) because the company is still achieving 7.5% ROE on it's compounding capital ($100,000 x 1.075^n).  This is discussed in more detail here.

The interplay between cheapness (P/B ratio) and growth (R/E) is delicate, and needs to be modeled in a spreadsheet to be able to see the interplay a little more clearly.  I'll save this for another post.  However, I'll leave you with the Buffet quote:

"It's far better to buy a wonderful company at a fair price than a fair company at a wonderful price".
Obviously, time-frames matter.

何謂「責任保險」?


(1)不論是個人或企業團體,都有可能因為自身或是受僱人(員工)的過失行為,導致第三人有身體傷害、財物毀損或金錢損失,而必須對受害第三人負賠償責任。例如:駕駛不慎撞傷路人或撞損他車、飯店因為管理不當發生火災,使旅客受傷、或產品製造商因為產品設計錯誤而有瑕疵,使消費者受傷等等。這種過失行為而導致第三人的損害,都需由行為人(即加害人)對受害人負損害賠償責任。而這種對第三人可能發生的損害賠償責任風險,即是一般所稱的「責任風險」。

(2)「責任保險」即是承保個人或企業團體(被保險人)的「責任風險」,通常來自於契約責任及侵權行為責任。所謂「契約責任」是指當事人之一方不履行契約義務或不照契約履行對他方所負之責任而產生對他人應負之賠償責任。而侵權行為責任則指因故意或過失,不法侵害他人權利或利益而產生對他人應負之損害賠償責任。責任保險主要以保障因侵權行為所致之民事賠償責任為主。因此責任保險通常必須由符合以下三個要件:

(A)因故意或過失。
(B)依法應負賠償責任。
(C)受賠償請求。



(3)保險公司配合個人或企業團體所面臨的各種責任風險,而設計開辦各種不同的責任保險。例如:汽車第三人責任保險、公共意外責任保險、產品責任保險等等。而個人或企業團體常投保的責任保險有以下幾項:

(4)在此特別一提的是,強制汽車責任保險及旅行業責任保險這兩個險種的特色,有別於一般的責任保險保單,其性質均屬於政策性保險。強制汽車責任保險是政府為保障汽車交通事故之受害者為能迅速獲得基本保障,並為維護道路交通安全,採單獨立法、公辦民營方式,委託產物保險業者經營;其特色是採限額無過失責任制。換言之,是以受害人因汽車交通事故而遭受身體傷害這一事實為限額賠償基礎,既不追究加害人之過失,亦不問被害人對事故發生是否亦有可歸責性,此制度之目的在對受害者能迅速獲得基本救濟。強制汽車責任保險的給付項目及金額為傷害醫療給付新台幣二十萬元,殘廢給付最高新台幣一百六十萬元,死亡給付新台幣一百六十萬元,每一事故給付人數無上限,每人最高給付新台幣一百八十萬元(先傷後殘廢或死亡)。超過的求償金額就必須以任意之責任險來承擔,這部分就必須是因故意或過失之法定責任才會理賠。

(5)此外,旅行業責任保險於其承保範圍即表明係承保被保險人於保險契約有效期間內所安排或接待之旅遊期間內,因發生意外事故致旅遊團員身體受有傷害或殘廢或因而死亡,依照發展觀光條例及旅行業管理規則之規定,應由被保險人負賠償責任而受賠償請求時,對被保險人負賠償責任。亦有無過失限額責任之特色。有助於受害者之求償。目前旅行業責任保險的保險金額為新台幣二百萬元。超過新台幣二百萬元的部分,也是必須法定責任才會理賠。

Benefits of Polymer Tantalum Capacitors


Capacitors, also known as condensers, are electrical devices that, something like batteries, can be charged to store electricity and release it (discharge) when it is needed. The most important difference is that the charging and discharging of a capacitor is much faster than with a battery. A simple capacitor is made from two metal plates (or plates made of another electrically conductive material), separated by a non-conducting--or insulating--material called the dielectric, in this instance, the precious metal tantalum.

  1. Tantalum Capacitors

    • How much electricity a capacitor can store (its capacitance) can be increased by making the conductive plates larger, building them closer together or by using a different dielectric. Tantalum is used because the metal forms an oxide layer on its surface which acts acting as the dielectric. Tiny tantalum capacitors are used in computers to even out power spikes that can damage the infinitesimal circuits on a chip.

    Size, Life and Reliability

    • Tantalum capacitors are particularly desirable because they can store a great deal of electricity for their size and weight, so the capacitors can be smaller--an advantage that mobile phone makers have taken advantage of to produce smaller and smaller cell phones. They are used especially where saving space is a priority and when long life and reliability are at a premium.

    Polymers Vs. MnO2

    • "Polymer" is a chemical term for large molecules that are made by creating chains of a small molecule. Proteins and starches are examples of natural polymers and plastics are man-made polymer materials. In the past, tantalum capacitors had two main weaknesses. Both of them were a byproduct of using magnesium dioxide (MnO2) as the cathode--the second plate, so to speak.
      Because the MnO2 contains a lot of oxygen and magnesium is a flammable metal, under some circumstances, when the capacitor failed they had a tendency to ignite. Replacing the MnO2 with an electrically conductive polymer solves that problem.
      The other drawback was that the tantalum-MnO2 capacitors had a higher "electrical resistance" than capacitors made with other dielectrics. By using a polymer for the cathode instead, engineers have been able to reduce the resistance inherent in the devices, as well, making them a better alternative. In fact, the conductive polymer developed as an alternative in the 1990s is 1,000 times more conductive than MnO2.

     大陸國務院總理溫家寶日前公開表示,重慶市委和市政府必須反思的一天之後,重慶高層人事驚傳巨變。根據新華社昨(15)日發布消息指出,中共中央決定,重慶市委書記由國務院副總理張德江兼任、薄熙來不再兼任。
     中共中組部也決定免去王立軍的重慶副市長職務,傳擬由青海省副省長、公安廳長何挺調任。
     重慶近年來已成為台商投資大陸的第3大重點區。官方稍早表示,4年來,台商對重慶投資增長13倍,台灣百大集團至少13個集團在重慶落腳。根據重慶市稍早公布數據,去年前11月,重慶市實際利用外資金額高達70.55億美元、年增84.2%。
     從2008年至今,重慶市累計利用外資已超過200億美元,提前1年完成目標。
     昨天上午大陸官方媒體宣布薄熙來去職後,立即引起市場震撼,不少市場人士分析,匯聚全球500強三分之一頂尖企業的重慶市,其未來投資前景,讓人感到憂慮。
     事實上,上月初大陸國家副主席習近平訪美前,王立軍進入美國駐成都總領事管,滯留一天就被重慶市長黃奇帆帶走事件曝光後,不少重慶台商都萌生隱憂。
     昨天新華社宣布之後,不少台商開始抱持觀望狀態。一位知情人士指出,原本很多IT巨頭的配套廠商打算今年要進駐,但在這敏感時機先打住觀望。這位人士指出,在重慶台商最擔心的還是換人主政後,「先前開的支票是否能夠兌現」,但目前黃奇帆還堅守崗位,應對台商還有些保障。
     薄熙來是中共開國元老薄一波之子,曾任大連市長、市委書記,遼寧省長、後升任大陸商務部長,再調任重慶市,仕途上可謂兼具父執庇蔭及地方及中央的歷鍊。目前,新華社除了宣布薄熙來重慶市委書記一職被取代,並沒有提供更多細節,且未提及他不再擔任中共中央政治局委員。
     今天秋天中共就要舉行第18次黨代表大會(簡稱十八大),宣布新一代決策核心,原本被高度看好的薄熙來,如今因王立軍事件被替換,也使得外界對中共十八大的舉行,給予更高度的關注。


台商:黃奇帆去留才是關鍵

 對於重慶市委書記薄熙來下台一事,當地台商普遍認為,即使沒有王立軍事件,薄熙來原本也會在年底的黨換屆後離職,反倒是負責組建台商筆電群聚的市長黃奇帆的去留,才是當地台商最關心的後續發展。

 在重慶投資的台灣筆電廠並未因薄熙來下台而放慢前進重慶的計畫。宏碁代理發言人汪島雄表示,去年宏碁從重慶出貨的比重已占整個大陸出貨量的35%,今年更要提高到50%;宏碁對重慶的未來有信心,因為重慶是大陸開發中西部的精神象徵。

 對於外界批評:重慶當局並未實現對筆電品牌商的補貼承諾,造成筆電廠商的物流成本居高不下,汪島雄表示,並不清楚補貼一事,但是從去年開始,宏碁已經開始運用鐵路把筆電送往歐洲,全程只需要17到18天,比海運更省時;至於出貨到東南亞和美國的筆電,現在也是透過鐵路運輸到深圳,再從那裡出口,由此可見重慶具有地利之便。

 華碩發言人也對薄熙來下台一事表示,大陸官方領導團隊都很優秀,他們的人事更替也很正常,公司會以平常心持續觀察事件的發展,但目前來說,投資重慶的方向不變。

 重慶台協會長黃錦勳則表示,據他了解,黃奇帆並不會隨薄熙來下台,因為他接任市長沒幾年,而且他如果離職,剛在重慶扎根的筆電廠商也會擔心。

 不過,話鋒一轉,黃錦勳也證實,想到重慶投資的台商的確也對目前的重慶政局感到憂心,一個月前,富士康的一家配套廠想到西永附近批一塊100畝的土地蓋工廠,該名台商就問起黃奇帆下台後的影響,怕原先政府的招商承諾會不兌現。對此,黃錦勳回應說,如果只是領導的口頭承諾,那就可能因人而異,但如果是正式簽約的承諾,那就不管誰上誰下,都會履行了。

 重慶台商普遍懷念薄熙來的打黑政策。一位台商在公車上遇到扒手,司機報案後,10分鐘,警察就趕到,把嫌犯帶走。薄熙來上台後,重慶各地普遍設立「交巡警平台」,也就是小型派出所,讓警察可以即時趕到案發現場,大幅改善治安情況。

研調:LED供過於求,短期內以清庫存為主

    市場研究機構LEDinside指出,儘管韓系品牌廠商推出新機種,使得大尺寸背光源市場近期出現局部急單效應,但整體LED產業仍進入傳統淡季,因此今年10月份台灣上市上櫃LED廠商營收總額約達77億元,仍月減約3.47%,年衰退10.2%。展望後市,從近期國際LED設備廠商的財報來看,新增(設備)訂單數皆大幅回落,顯示LED廠商的擴產速度已經減緩,在LED供過於求的當下,市場上許多LED廠商都將先以清庫存為主要營運目標。
    LEDinside認為,由於LED市況短期內需要一段時間的市場整理,因此在產能利用率遞減的情況下,各家廠商也開始加強自身的產品品質,並且對於2012年市場發展目標上的考量也更為嚴謹。廠商間也開始尋求更密切的聯盟,以期在市場需求回溫之時,能有一展長才之處。
    例如,飛利浦近來頻頻收購LED事業,從光源開發擴及終端通路,目標在於要提供更完善的照明解決方案,以鞏固其在不同領域的照明品牌地位。此外,Traxon持續強化其在建築、商店與酒店等專業照明應用,德國大廠歐司朗(Osram)則藉著收購Traxon,進一步加強專業LED照明解決方案,並積極開發新興市場。

    LED磊晶/晶粒方面,根據LEDinside調查,受到庫存去化的壓力與終端市場需求低迷的雙重影響,今年10月份台灣上市櫃LED磊晶廠營收來到32.9億元,較上月衰退4.5%,較去年同期衰退21.7%
    其中,晶電(2448)雖然受惠於韓系新機種訂單帶來10%的營收貢獻,但仍在試產階段,數量不大,預計到20122月後才有機會提升銷售,至於四元LED市場轉淡則影響了整體業績表現。璨圓(3061)受益於泰國水患的轉單效應,10月營收得以持平。新世紀(3383)因中國大陸戶外看板業績貢獻超過35%,加上高功率LED產品已獲部分中國大陸客戶採用,10月營收表現相對較佳。

    台灣上市櫃LED封裝廠今年10月份營收總額則約達44.1億元,月減約2.7%,較去年同期增近1%。其中,隆達(369810月份營收達8.74億元,目前LED照明產品比重佔營收比重已達4成。

認識主機板

煮雞板....咳!「主機板」(Motherboard)不算電腦裡最先進的零組件,但絕對是塞最多東西的零組件。事實上,現在新的主機板簡直像怪物,上面可能有數十個長長短短、大大小小、圓的方的、各式各樣的插槽。即使我已經見過不下百張的主機板,仍然會驚訝於一張板子怎麼能塞這麼多東西,更可怕的是,東西還一年比一年多。

平台的概念

在電腦零件組中,主機板扮演的是一個「平台」(Platform)的角色,它把所有其他零組件串連起來,變成一個整體。我們常說CPU像大腦一樣,負責所有運算的工作,而主機板就有點像脊椎,連接擴充卡、硬碟、網路、音效、鍵盤、滑鼠、印表機等等所有的週邊,讓CPU可以掌控。所以玩電腦的人,常會在意「板子穩不穩」,因為主機板連接的週邊太多,若穩定性不夠就容易出現各種靈異現象。CPU不夠快,頂多人笨一點算得慢,但脊椎出毛病就不良於行了。

當然,CPU還是最重要的零件,CPU掛了,就像本草綱目所記載的:「腦殘沒藥醫」。

目前全世界最大的主機板廠通通都在台灣(生產線當然在大陸),所以一定要好好認識一下台灣之光,但就像最前面說的,現在主機板上實在塞太多東西,每個插槽都是一種規格,有自己的歷史和技術。這篇主要是講一個「綜觀」,各插槽的技術會在對應零組件裡詳細說明,出現一堆英文縮寫請別在意。

廢話不多說,我們挑一張目前最新的主機板做介紹,大家一起感謝微星提供兩張P35 Platinum供小弟任意解體,幸好,在本專題中沒有一張主機板死亡。


主機板外觀

這是目前新的主機板的模樣,看起來密密麻麻跟鬼一樣。你電腦裡裝的可能沒這麼高級,花樣也不一定這麼多,但某些東西是每一張主機板都會有的。
先把一定會有的東西框出來標號,依序做介紹。


1.CPU插槽(CPU Socket)

首先,主機板一定有個插槽放CPU,不同的主機板通常會有不同的CPU插槽型式,以支援不同的CPU,而即使插槽型式一樣,主機板也不一定都能支援,這跟CPU或主機板的世代交替,或是廠商自己劃分產品定位有關。而在照片左端有一個八個洞白色插槽,那是給CPU供電用的。

這是插上電源插頭之後的樣子,在CPU的章節有提到,現在高階CPU的耗電TDP非常高,所以要有專門的電源模組,特別給CPU用。另外,CPU是很精密的電子零件,它有固定範圍的工作電壓,過高過低都會傷到CPU,所以CPU插槽旁邊都會佈滿一顆顆的小圓柱(照片中銀色紫色交錯的東西)。這些「電容」的作用像小型的電池,當輸入電壓較高時就儲存電力,輸入電壓較低時就釋放電力,而快速的儲存和釋放,會讓供電保持在一個較穩定的環境,而不是上上下下的暴風雨。喜歡超頻的玩家會很在意這些電容,因為這是穩定電壓的零件之一,可提升電源的純淨度,玩家會講究電容的型式(固態或電解)、廠牌(日系或台系),甚至是安裝(插件式或SMD式)的方法,為的就是給CPU最穩定的環境,達到超頻的爽度。

但要注意,穩壓不是只有電容在做,而是要搭配其他零件(如電容旁邊的R25方塊,電感)和整體線路,不一定用上高級電容就保証有高級電源,最重要的還是主機板的線路設計方式。而現在主機板常常標榜的「分相」,就是把供電的電流和電壓分開成數個,比如原本輸入120W,可拆成四相各30W,由於每一相的負載較低,比較容易保持供電的穩定度。一般說來分相愈多,電源的環境就愈好,但這並非絕對,設計功力還是最重要的。而要看分幾相,可以數一下電容或電感的個數,電容數除二或電感個數通常就是相數,但這只是「通常」,依然不是絕對,照片中的主機板是四相電源。


2.記憶體插槽(DRAM Slot)
在第0篇的總論就有提到了,這長條狀的插槽就是插記憶體用的,一般主機板會有2~4條,或更多,緊鄰著CPU和北橋晶片。


3.北橋晶片(Northbridge)
 北橋是主機板上最重要的晶片,負責連接CPU、記憶體和顯示卡,通常中階以上的主機板都會在北橋上裝散熱片或風扇,因為它就像CPU一樣會發熱。照片中是拆下散熱器後的模樣,紫色的東西可能是散熱用的貼紙,我不敢硬摳下來,不過北橋就和CPU一樣,都是一顆晶片。


4.南橋晶片(Southbridge)

南橋是主機板上的老二,和北橋互連並連接其他週邊,我們熟知的主機板「功能」大多來自南橋,比如USB、網路、音效、SATA/IDE硬碟,都是從南橋連出來的。它也是一顆晶片,照片中看起來好像比北橋還大,那只是晶片製程和封裝的型式不同。


現在主機板為了差異化,有時南北橋都會做散熱片,甚至還兼做造型,讓南北橋與CPU旁的穩壓線路全部連在一起做散熱。當然,通常只有高階產品才會這樣做,入門主機板黏個散熱片就算很有義氣了。


5.擴充卡插槽(Expansion Card Slot)

雖然某些主機板已經內建了「所有」必要的東西,比如網路、音效、甚至顯示晶片,但還是有擴充的需求,這些插槽就是拿來裝別的卡,比如插上電視卡就可以在電腦上看天下第一味,或是插無線網卡,讓桌上型電腦也能無線化。而最常見的,就是插一張顯示卡。

這是顯示卡插上PCI-Express插槽,網路卡插上PCI插槽的樣子。PCI-Express或PCI都是擴充卡的插槽型式,從名字也看得出來,PCI-Express比較先進。


6.硬碟/光碟機插槽(IDE、SATA)
藍色小插槽和黃色長一堆針的,都是連接硬碟或光碟機用的,藍色的是SATA、黃色的是IDE(或叫PATA),現在IDE通常只有光碟在用了,硬碟幾乎快全面轉換到SATA了。左邊那堆黃綠紅的小針腳是連接機殼用的,比如機殼上的USB、電源鍵、燈號等等,這部分的安裝通常要參考主機板說明書,每一張主機板的針腳並不固定。

SATA和IDE的排線,很明顯看的出來SATA的插拔方便多了。


7.整合週邊(Integrated Peripherals)
這些主機板本身功能的輸出輸入口。USB和網路插孔應該認得出來,右邊六個洞是音訊輸出和輸入,左邊兩個圓的是PS/2,插舊型的鍵盤和滑鼠,其他光纖輸出(音訊)、eSATA(外接硬碟)、IEEE 1394(週邊)的位置如圖所示。


8.BIOS

那個看起來像水銀電池的東西,嗯....就是電池。用來供電給BIOS,儲存主機板的設定和時間,就算電源拔掉,資料也可以保留很長一段時間。至於BIOS(Basic Input/Output System),有點像是主機板內建的「軟體」,用來辨識主機板上的各式裝置,調整各種設定,再交給作業系統啟動,BIOS是開機過程中的第一步,BIOS辨識完畢之後再給作業系統接手。BIOS軟體通常放在一個很小的Flash ROM儲存裝置(可以刷BIOS更新內容),照片中貼著綠色貼紙的就是,和旁邊的插槽相比真的超小。

電腦開機時可能會秀這樣的圖形或文字,通常一閃而過,但一定會顯示按什麼鍵可以進入BIOS設定,一般是按DEL或F1。早期的BIOS可以用一個方法「定住」,就是把鍵盤線拔掉,BIOS就會停在一個錯誤訊息,可以仔細看清楚,但現在不一定管用了,只能用各位高超的動態視覺,或是按「Pause」鍵停住。哈!突然想到一個關於BIOS的冷笑話,很久很久以前,隨插即用的USB鍵盤還沒那麼普及時,BIOS預設若沒抓到PS/2鍵盤就會停住,然後出現「keyboard not present , please press F1 key to continue」(找不到鍵盤,請按F1鍵繼續).....啊就找不到鍵盤了,是要用什麼按?念力嗎?

這是最常見的BIOS畫面,現在BIOS不止拿來做基本的硬體設定,最重要功能已經變成是超頻了,BIOS也是各家主機板廠差異化的主要部分,之後我們會有完整一個章節來介紹BIOS。


9.電源輸入(ATX Power Connector)
南北橋要吃電、記憶體要吃電、顯示卡要吃電,就連USB也要吃電(雖然不多),而電就從這個20或24針的電源插座進來,供電給整張主機板。這插槽是給電源供應器插的地方,就像主機板其他有電源輸入的地方一樣,旁邊一定有電容排排站。

看完這一堆,應該不難想像主機板上到底塞了多少東西,這裡寫的還是簡化過的,內建顯示、音效Codec和網路Phy晶片還沒提到呢!但這只是主機板的第一篇而已,之後會在「北橋」和「南橋」篇另外解說。

說到南北橋,其實上面所有的東西可以簡單的分割成三大部分,主機板就是由「CPU」、「北橋」和「南橋」組合而成,其中南北橋晶片合稱「晶片組」(Chipset)。只要把CPU想成大腦,晶片組的北橋和南橋則是脊椎的兩個部分,一切就不難理解了。


我把CPU裝上主機板,並把南北橋的散熱器拔掉,露出晶片。是不是有一種「三位一體」的神力流貫你全身的感覺?(有才怪......)

標上框線和箭頭,應該清楚多了。這就是一個「平台」的架構圖,會叫北橋和南橋,是因為畫這種架構圖時,北橋都會在上面,南橋在下面。以最快的方法解釋:北橋連接高速週邊,傳輸速度以每秒數GB來計算的,比如CPU(8~10 GB/s)、記憶體(8~10 GB/s)、顯示卡(8 GB/s);而南橋連接慢速週邊,傳輸速度以每秒數MB來計算,比如硬碟(375 MB/s)、USB(60 MB/s)、PCI(133 MB/s)、網路、音效等等。換句話說,北橋直接影響電腦的「效能」,南橋決定電腦的「功能」。所以,當你從USB隨身碟讀一個資料,資料就從 USB → 南橋 → 北橋 → 記憶體 → CPU。而連接北橋和南橋之間的通道,則依晶片組廠商的設計而不同,Intel過去是用專屬的Hub Link,新的晶片組則用標準化的PCI-Express,至於NVIDIA和AMD則習慣用HyperTransport。

由於北橋最重要的就是記憶體控制器,有時也叫Memory Controller Hub,南橋是各式輸出入週邊,所以也叫I/O Controller Hub,你想繞英文我不反對,但我自己是習慣南北橋的稱呼啦!

註:MB是MegaByte,GB則是GigaByte=1024 MB。

結語

雖然一般主機板通常會有南北橋,但沒有規定說這兩顆晶片不能塞在一起變一顆,尤其AMD最近的CPU都內建記憶體控制器,把北橋最重要的功能轉移到CPU內,這讓晶片組的設計變得非常好玩,北橋可以變南橋,橫跨世代完全利用。在接下來的北橋和南橋篇,會有更完整的平台升級和週邊I/O的介紹。

OLED TV vs. AMOLED TV vs. LED TV

What's the difference? Definitions and Comparisons

OLED (organic light emitting diode) technology consists of an organic compound that when put to a charge creates light. Each pixel in an OLED TV is lit separately. This is the reason these TVs can produce such outstanding color and black levels. Recently, people have begun calling them AMOLED TVs as well to help distinguish that they are both OLED and AMOLED.

AMOLED (active matrix light emitting diode) technology consists of the exactly the same color creation stratagem as OLED. Active matrix OLED refers to the type of TFT (thin film transmitter) that charges the individual pixels. These TFT matrix panels have the ability to both store power (through a storage capacitor) and charge the pixel – a dual function rather than the single function of a passive OLED TV panel TFT which is only to charge the pixels.

Power consumption: Energy usage the primary responsibility of the active matrix OLED TFT. These screens are extremely effective in battery operated devices such as smart phones due to their energy saving characteristics.
TFT backplane technology is critical for producing AMOLED displays due to through the dual TFT source materials polycrystalline silicon and amorphous silicon. These silicon substrates allow for flexibity in the screen which is not that important in OLED TVs.

So, in sum for AMOLED think supply voltage and store power. For OLED consider only that the TFT is responsible for supplying power to the organic light emitting diodes.

Now LED TV is another matter altogether. An LED TV is a light emitting diode backlit LCD (liquid crystal display). Light emitting diode lighting is a revolutionary light that allows for more powerful backlighting in these TVs to allow for a brighter and better contrast in the picture image. These TVs really do not have a close comparison to OLED TVs because the light is created not within each pixel cell but instead by the LED edge or backlit panel. The individual pixel cells in an LED TV are just glass crystal, which twist at high refresh rates to produce the color light flow through to produce the picture image.

IaaS, PaaS and SaaS Terms Clearly Explained and Defined

  • IaaS - the unit you are gaining is a computer/server. Therefore IaaS is essentially a "physical server box".  An example of this would be going to RackSpace or SoftLayer and leasing a physical box from them.  The vendor manages the networking, hard drives (if they fail), hardware of the box, virtualization O/S (if the box is virtualized).  You can remote desktop to the box and you manage everything else (shown in the screenshot above). Windows Azure provides IaaS in the form the VM Role (you upload a Windows Server 2008 R2 image and manage the server yourself).
  • PaaS - the unit you are gaining is an application/framework.  Therefore PaaS is a "hosted application/framework/tools that you can leverage to build something on.  That application is configured on IIS/SQL Server etc and runs on a hardware/virtual system that the vendor manages. An example of PaaS would be Windows Azure (excluding the VM Role) services like web role, worker role, Reporting Services etc.
  • SaaS - the unit you are gaining is business functionality.  For example, Gmail is a type of a SaaS mail provider because you don't have to manage any service yourself and its all done by the vendor (Google in this example).

Panel generation and sizes



According to DisplaySearch, up to 2011Q2, 90% worldwide panels for netbooks and tablets are still manufactured in G5 or lower. But Japanese and Korean panel manufacturers like Sharp and LG Display have started producting tablet panels on G8. Approximately 10% of netbook and tablet panels are made on G6 and G8. And in 2012, this number is expected to go up to 25%.

三星電機(Samsung Electro-Mechanics)日前宣布,成功開發出全世界第1個尺寸為0.6x0.3mm規格的2.2微法拉(microfarad)積層陶瓷電容(MLCC),體積縮小達70%,預計此產品將以其高附加價值搶攻市場。

MLCC是用來調節電子產品電流的零件,與晶片同樣被認為是電子產業的重要元素,1支智慧型手機中通常會安裝400多片MLCC。

三星電機表示,0.6x0.3mm規格的MLCC是目前市場需求量成長幅度最大的產品,三星電機本次開發的MLCC,不僅維持原本極小的規格,更成功將容量提升2倍,體積縮小70%。三星電機更自信滿滿地表示,這項MLCC產品比業界的技術領先1年以上。 未來三星電機將積極進攻智慧型手機、平板電腦等移動通訊器材的MLCC市場,1年的MLCC市場規模估計可以達到8兆韓元(約68.72億美元),其中移動通訊器材的MLCC市場每年平均可以成長20%以上。
三星電機LCR開發部長權尚勳(譯名)表示,近來智慧型手機市場前景一片大好,手機產品不斷推陳出新,三星電機將會積極搶攻高附加價值的MLCC市場,尤其希望拓展在LTE手機MLCC零件的市佔率。

Android-based Disney Mobile

Disney launches two new Android smartphones, mouse ears not included

Mickey's ditching the steamboat and giving up Fantasia in pursuit of all things mobile as Disney launches the DM011SH and DM010SH -- joining the company's other Android offering. The 4-inch 3D capable DM010SH handset will be Walt's top-of-the-line variant with a 960 x 540 qHD touchscreen, 8MP camera and a 1GHz processor. Next in line is the DM011SH waterproof slider with a 3.4-inch touchscreen sporting 854 X 480 resolution and an identical processor and camera to its higher-end cousin. Both Android 2.3 phones come decorated with the signature insignia in tweentastic candy colors like pink and white, with a black version of the DM010SH available for more subdued Mouse House fans. Aside from the phones, Disney also outed the internet-enabled DM001Photo, a 9.4 x 5.6-inch digital picture frame for viewing pictures, videos and emails over 3G for ¥890 (or $11) a month. Although prices have yet to be finalized, the DM010SH is slated to hit the Japanese market in October, while the other two should appear on store shelves by December. I missed the earlier announcement on the launch of the Disney-themed mobile.
It looks decent, cute Mickey button, a few of the earlier adoptors for 3D display on mobile phones - but who would use it?

Disney fans in Japan, mostly teenage girls, and...?
If the majority of mobile users aren't using 3D technology on their phone, why would the younger generation be interested in it?
It's great that they are pulling together the phone with Disney games, dashboard themes, videos, screen protector, and other add-ons.
But market so narrow! : ( I'd be expecting Disney phasing out from this industry soon, if they're not doing more to broaden their target group...
